Increase in use of depression ins 1930 due to the Great Depression most likely. There was a slight increase in the 1980's, which was also the time of economic recession.

Saint Nicholas was used a lot more before the 1900's, this is probably a reference to the Christian saint. Large increase in Santa Claus use after 1940's. Santa Claus was used in Coca Cola advertising in 1930's.

Peak use of "flying in" in 1942. I postulate that this was when the first commercial planes flew. A quick google search showed that the first successful commercial airliner debut in 1952.
